The master artisan's belt

 

The piece that shapes the entire silhouette.

The belt is what transforms a kaftan into an outfit: it defines the waist, shapes the silhouette, and catches the light. That is why we entrust it to a master artisan—and why every one of its elements is handmade, without exception.

The borders, first, are braided like sfifa: thread by thread, in shades chosen to complement the kaftan they will accompany. Then there is the cord, which allows the belt to be adjusted precisely to the waist; it too is made by hand. Finally, the hooks, also handmade, are attached and finished by hand so they close securely without ever catching on the fabric.

Nothing here is mechanical; everything is the result of handwork. It is the most comprehensive work in our workshops: within just a few centimetres, it brings together braiding, sewing, and finishing—three crafts in a single piece.

How can you recognize it? Turn it over. The reverse of a master artisan’s belt is as carefully finished as the front: even borders, neat finishing, and no loose threads. It is on the reverse side of things that craftsmanship is judged.

Worn over a kaftan, it is adjusted with the cord, follows the waist without tightening, and stays in place all evening—from the ceremony to the last dance.
